SPREAD AWARENESS

  1. Write a blog or an op-ed to your school, community, or city paper related to human trafficking.

  2. Organize a book, movie, or arts-based awareness campaign in your community, public library or faith community, school, or campus.

  3. Include human trafficking in a classroom presentation,term paper, or report.

  4. Celebrate July 30 as World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. In 2013, the United Nations passed a resolution designating this day to raise awareness about the growing issue of human trafficking and the protection of victims and their rights.

  5. Invite a speaker from a local anti-trafficking organization.

VOLUNTEER

  1. Identify two or three anti-trafficking organizations and reach out. Set a goal to start volunteering by a specific date!

  2. Sign up to receive newsletters of two organizations whose mission you believe in.

  3. Share your commitment to these organizations on social media.

  4. Inquire about internships.

  5. Collect gently used professional women’s clothing and back-to-school supplies from your friends and neighbors for survivors.

  6. My NGO, Apne Aap, takes volunteers, as do NGOs across the country. You can look for your local NGO to help. Scroll below for some names.

  7. Start an anti-trafficking club in your school

REPORT

There are people and resources available to help if a child in care goes missing.

  1. The Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline—Professional crisis counselors will connect you with a local number to report abuse. Call 1-800-4-A-CHILD (1-800-422-4453) or visit childhelphotline.org.

  2. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC)—Aimed at preventing child abduction andexploitation, locating missing children, and assisting victims of child abduction and sexual exploitation. Call 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678) or visit missingkids.org.

  3. National Human Trafficking Resource Center—A twenty-four-hour hotline, open all day, every day, that helps identify,protect, and serve victims of trafficking. Call 1-800-373-7888 or visit humantraffickinghotline.org.

  4. Click and share links below for information on where and how to report if you or a friend notices something or needs help.

DONATE/ FUNDRAISE

  1. Sponsor a child in a part of the world you know little about and educate yourself about human trafficking in that area.

  2. Make a regular contribution. Even ten dollars a month can make a big difference. Most organizations let you do thisonline.

  3. Donate to an anti-trafficking organization.

  4. Raise funds for the organizations by holding a community yard sale or a party or in lieu of birthday or holiday gifts askfamily member or friends to donate to your Crowdfunder.

  6. Organize a run, a henna party, a movie screening, a kickstarter for an organization or anti-trafficking campaign you like

  7. Urge the adults in your life to donate to the campaign or NGO you like.

  8. Find ways to help in clothes and book drives for youth at risk to trafficking.

TAKE ACTION

  1. Sign the I Kick and I Fly Freedom pledge and ask others to sign as well, It creates awareness and makes people conscious about their actions. If we get a critical number of signatures it is become an advocacy tool to submit to the UN and governments across the world as a citizens demand.

  2. Share the pledge on social media

  3. Advocate for laws to protect minors from exploitative practices

  4. Send an email to your local elected officials urging them to keep traffickers and trafficking victims top of mind.

  5. Share my author’s note with your friends and friendly adults. I wrote I Kick and I Fly so that you could discuss issues that matter to you and happen to young people your age but is not talked about.

  6. You can take concrete actions that include gathering information, reading, watching films, organizing activities in your community, advocating, and supporting anti-trafficking NGOs.
